Alerts, thread watching, and web push
There’s a bell icon in the top bar now (ALERTS on desktop, the bell on a phone). It lights up whenever someone @mentions you, replies to a thread you started, or posts in a thread you’re watching.
Multiple replies to the same thread roll up into one line in your Notifications inbox instead of flooding the list, and opening the thread clears its alerts automatically.
Every thread also has a Watch / Watching toggle at the top. By default, starting or replying to a thread watches it automatically, and clicking Watching un-watches and mutes it so later replies won’t subscribe you again. You can manage all of your watched threads under Watching.
If you want to choose what pings you, or turn on browser push notifications so alerts reach your desktop or phone while the tab is closed, check Settings → Notifications.
Emoticon & kaomoji picker
The composer toolbar on new topics, replies, and netmail now has a ☺ button on the far right. Click it to open a tray of 28 classic ASCII smileys, kaomoji, and BBS glyphs:

The markdown parser leaves their characters alone, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ keeps its left arm and >:-( at the start of a line stays an angry face instead of turning into a blockquote.
